Glad u made it. The view is definitely spectacular, although I only arrived at lunch time as we stayed in Surabaya the night before. Should have stayed up in the mountains as you did.

I reckon the sign is due to some licensing restriction, but yes you can just walk in. I never book ahead and was never asked to be a member.

Unfortunately I can't remember which one we used. I think we just walked and find a pit location which we like, and book it on the spot.

1. Regardless, the onus should be on the restaurants to inform the customers, not the other way round. They could have been nice about it, and we would have relented, but he did not.

2. It was my virgin experience. It's just too painful.

3. Holy shit I didn't know that. Now I crave for more!!

4. Never mind the calories, think of the cholesterol!

Fortunately this incident was kinda isolated. Most restaurants have pretty decent service; some were of course exceptional.

1. it's pretty standard for Chinese restaurants to have a minimum charge when you are seated in a private room. To be fair, they should have told you, but any number of you who have been around Chinese restaurants should have known better to ask proactively. I definitely would have.

2. we don't call the gold coin chicken "cholesterol sandwiches" for nothing…

3. the flower crab's sauce was made with chicken fat. guess nobody told you that…

4. you don't want to know how many calories you consumed, between the suckling pig, the cholesterol sandwich, the flower crab, the char siu…etc

I was at Sai Wan Ho (aka East Soho) just now and was all ready for Tapeo, but my buddy insisted on Berliner. Seems like a wasted opportunity then! And your take on Boqueria?

Hey Raz,

Totally agree with you re overpriced for tapas and also FINALLY someone else, like me, who didn't think the Spanish Breakfast was all that (especially for the price!).

I'm not the biggest fan of open kitchens with bar seating as don't find it very comfy/social. Although I did enjoy 22 Ships, I'm not tearing at the bit to return - Tapeo in Sai Wan Ho is still my fave for tapas in HK!

The set meal for was six person. Including the additional bamboo clams and beer, we paid around $2,200. According to Singapore friends, that was a steal.

Oh yes, this was three years ago and since then I have returned to Cheung Chau at least five times. I have found the tree (and way too many spots to guzzle beer to be strictly healthy)
